I’ve been interested in quilting since I was a little girl, learning the skill from my mom, who has amassed a gorgeous collection of vintage quilts. I was interested in combining my love of reclaimed items with the beauty and detail of quilt patterns. My first effort was, appropriately enough, a present for my mom. I chose the basket pattern (her favorite), and then raided my vintage gas station map collection for maps featuring the homes of our various far-flung family. Obviously a new frame would not do, and so I grabbed a salvaged window (with original hardware!) out of my collection. I’m so pleased with how this turned out, that I am already working on another, this time with court documents dating back to the early 1900’s.
